The modeling, analysis and numerical treatment of multiphase fluid dynamics and continuum mechanics provide several challenging problems treated in the past as well as in very recent literature.
Often very problem specific approaches are used revealing different mathematical structures and therefore make it difficult to provide a rather unified treatment of these topics.
Recently interest in the works by Godunov, Müller, Ruggeri, Romenski and their co-authors is growing.
In particular Godunov and Romenski suggest a unified approach which leads to symmetric hyperbolic systems which are derived from physical principles.
These hyperbolic models are capable of describing multiphase fluid dynamics as well as continuum mechanics including heat conduction and viscosity which are typically second order effects.
The aim of the workshop is to give interested researchers the opportunity to get detailed insight in the derivation and properties of these models. Therefore Prof. Romenski will give a lecture at each day of the workshop. Moreover we invite specialists from the adjacent fields, i.e. physics, analysis and numerics.
There will be a limited possibility to contribute talks on modeling aspects and mathematical properties.
We hope for fruitful discussions which advance the progress in this field of hyperbolic balance laws.
